Find and inspect local models
What the library searches
Section titled “What the library searches”The native Model Library searches the local inventory discovered from configured folders. It is not a live Hugging Face search. The wider discovery interface in the atlas is a design preview with sample results and external source links.
Use Add folder, Import GGUF, or the header’s refresh action to update actual files and hardware. The application may recognize existing model directories during first launch, including an available LM Studio model directory. It does not copy LM Studio’s configuration, stop its service or claim ownership of its files.
Read the inspector
Section titled “Read the inspector”Selecting a row reveals data from a bounded GGUF header and tensor inventory:
- Architecture and tensor encodings, which matter for engine compatibility.
- Quantization, file size and estimated parameter count where derivable.
- Context ceiling and transformer block count where metadata provides them.
- Local path, artifact type and structural warnings.
Unknown data remains unknown. A filename or embedded display name can be misleading. In the inspected RegesCore 35B artifact, geometry and exact file identity are more useful than a stale embedded display name. RegesARC preserves the source file rather than rewriting it to match a label.
Complete files matter
Section titled “Complete files matter”A GGUF shard is only part of a split model. The current native gate blocks a single shard whose metadata declares multiple parts because aggregate completeness and placement are not implemented. A multimodal projector is likewise not an independent language model. Do not rename a shard or projector to bypass those checks.
Malformed headers, unknown tensor encodings and unknown architecture are reasons to investigate. The inspector does not execute a model to inspect it, but a successful parse does not prove runtime compatibility.
Keep provenance alongside the file
Section titled “Keep provenance alongside the file”For a model you obtain elsewhere, keep its repository, revision, complete filenames, declared license and published hashes. The current native inventory does not infer all of that from a local filename. Consult artifact identity before comparing two quantizations or claiming that one model is the same as another.
Live catalog search, resumable download jobs, hash verification and fit-before-download ranking are future capabilities. Until then, download through the actual source’s documented tools and import the finished local artifact deliberately. Do not treat the atlas’s simulated download queue as a transfer manager.
